Tours

A number of international delegations come to visit the plants of Wien Energie Fernwärme each year in order to learn more about the Austrian approach to district heating systems and waste disposal.
The thermal waste treatment plant at Spittelau uniquely combines three elements which, on the face of it, have very little in common: waste, energy and art. Gain an insight into the fascinating world of district heating by taking a guided tour around the Spittelau plant.
A tour of Spittelau is filled with a number of highlights, making a visit well worth your while. We take you directly to the roaring flames in the combustion chamber. Standing on a glass floor in the control room, you can see deep into the gigantic waste bunker. Or you can marvel at the control centre's innovative technology. We explain how the systems of waste recycling and disposal work in Vienna. Moreover, you can find out how heating and hot water are produced in an environmentally friendly way, not least because our complex filter systems preserve the air quality of Vienna.
