Sustainability
Wien Energie understands sustainability to mean using resources responsibly so that they will also be available to future generations. In the face of widely divergent interests, a stable economic footing is a fundamental part of this ethos. This precondition has been met, thanks to an equity ratio of 26 percent and efficient cost management. As an energy service provider,Wien Energie's emphasis on ecological sustainability revolves around using primary energy resources sparingly while also increasing its use of renewable sources of energy; all this with the aim of reducing its impact on the environment as far as possible. The projects and measures pioneered by Wien Energie are incredibly diverse.

Promoting renewable energy sources
Wien Energie is pursuing a number of diverse projects focussing on the exploitation of renewable energy resources in producing electricity; its finger is firmly on the proverbial ecological pulse. By doing this, it is also acceding to customers' wishes that heat and electricity be produced in a clean and environmentally friendly way. Energy from these renewable sources should make up approximately 500,000 megawatt hours per year by 2010. Customers who choose Wien Energie help to support small hydropower stations, wind farms, as well as geothermal, biogas, photovoltaic and biomass plants. Moreover, they help to preserve the environment and its resources by supporting district heating and cooling, along with innovative projects such as using compressed natural gas (CNG)
as fuel.
